Jacqueline,
I know this is a common situation everywhere. Are you also reducing staff and/or hours as result of the 20% drop? How is your staff coping with this?

I am having the same problem as Jacqueline. We have had to lay off one employee so far. I am not sure how many more this may affect. I am also facing the problem of my private school. I have had a private school for over 10 years, but this year we may have to make the decision to not have a private school. I truly understand where you are coming from.

My school is licensed for 154 students. We have had about 10 families encounter a job loss. We fortunately are a ministry of Lake Highlands Presbyterian Church and have chosen to help the families within our school. One of the things that we have done is start a bartering system instead of weekly tuition. We currently have a parent who is an amazing artist. He is going to do an oil painting of our church for us instead of tuition. We have another parent who is painting classrooms in the evenings instead of paying tuition. It really helps us and gives the parents a chance to find a job during the day time. It is part of giving back to our community and making sure the children get their needs met.

I am the Director of a center with a 245 capacity. At this time we are down by 20% in our enrollment. Parents loose jobs weekly; new children sign up but present students have to leave. I am finding it increasingly difficult to keep even. Parents are not quick to register for summer or fall programs stating they want to be sure they will be employed. I can’t staff for either session because I have no idea how many childeren will be in attendance.
